i. back to school

[ After Golden Week, Makoto is back at school. It's a still weird taking the train across town to attend Promised Morning instead of just walking to school like he'd thought he'd be doing, but it's not like the school is bad. Plus a later morning start isn't something to really complain about.

He does miss his friends, though. He wonders what they're up to. Sliding the door to the classroom open he steps inside with a muttered 'good morning' and the hope that no one pays all that much attention. It's not that he's unfriendly--he just doesn't really know how to approach others. As he settles, he starts pulling his folders free, glances aside at the students around him. ]

Ehhh... did you do the homework over the break? Do you want to go over answers before class starts?

[ Nerd. ]

ii. new kid on the block

[ Makoto isn't sure he'll ever get used to the Dream Sphere. Especially the part of the Dream Sphere where when he transforms and passes into it and he has... tits. And blonde hair. It's not bad, really, if he thinks about it. It's just strange and new and different. That's all.

Dreamer Peach is standing in the Reflection Glades, the spring breeze ruffling through his hair and tugging at the hem of the fluffy skirts he's wearing. It still doesn't feel real that he's here, that he's allowed to be part of this whole thing. Well... maybe time to test things out again. He bends his legs a little and leaps--testing how strong and agile he is in this world.

Oop.

Stronger than he expected. There's a flail as he goes sailing through the air, still not used to his own strength or how to correct himself--oh no. Oh God. ]

Look ouuuuuttt---!!

[ There's a Dreamer headed your way. ]

[ Caitsith had been minding her own business, trying to decide where to start her patrols for the day. Night? Whatever the case, she had to do her due diligence. ]

EH?!

[ That was before Peach, who had looked like a twinkle in the sky just a moment before, starts falling toward her. ]

Wh- wh- wha- Ah! Hold on, I'll-

[ Caitsith runs to and fro, frantically searching for the best angle to catch him from. Then she realizes that a bulky metal gauntlet would be the softest landing surface, frantically dismisses it, realizes that he's about to hit the ground, dives, and-

SAAAAAFFFFFFE! ]

Mmf mm mm-mm? [ She tries to say "Are you okay?" as her quivering arms hold up Peach, but her face is too buried in the (soft and fluffy, thankfully) Dream Sphere grass to make out her words. ]

[ Peach flails. Oh no. OH NO! There's someone down there--agh! Peach crashes into Caitsith and... it's a soft landing. Mostly. Peach groans and sprawls out in a spray of fluffy petticoats and skirts, then slowly rolls over onto the grass to stare up at the perfectly blue sky. ]

...Th-thanks.

[ God. He sounds so weird here. His voice is higher, softer. ]

I [ Boku ] thought I was gonna just go splat.

[Sometimes, just every so often, you gotta turn off the chuuni energy and really put your back into it. A Dreamer flying at you is not that situation, but a Dreamer flying at you who might end up getting hurt because of that flight is.]

[Which is why Zeke DOESN'T yell something about 'Bringer of Chaos!' as he shifts a foot back and absorbs the impact as much as he can.]

Ooof! [And then he plops down on his butt, not quite able to keep his balance.]

[ Peach flails as he smacks right into Zeke and goes tumbling onto the thankfully soft grass of the Reflection Glades. Sprawling out in a flurry of petticoats and skirts, he groans and stares up at the sky. ]

Ow...

[ He sits up and winces. Looks over to Zeke. ]

S-sorry!

Uggh. No worries, chum. [Zeke groans a bit as he gets his feet beneath him again. Luckily Dreamers are tough, so the worst he's getting out of this is a couple aches and pains.] Just try not to... do whatever that was that was happening again, right?

Owwww...

[ Peach groans. ]

I just did a jump! That's all! Nothing fancy!

Just a jump? [Zeke frowns -- not an angry frown, just thoughtful.] Are you that new to this?

I mean... I've only had this for a couple months. Since just after the New Year?

[ Awkward. ]

Well, that would explain it!

[Zeke claps the Dreamer on her (as near as he can tell, forgive the assumption) shoulder.]

Then we need to get you some practice in a safer place than around here.

[ Oof. Peach staggers a little. Don't worry Zeke, you're just ahead of the curve. ]

Is this place... not safe? It's really pretty, though.

Oh yes, absolutely gorgeous, not very likely to have Torments at all. Seems perfectly safe. Right up until someone's in your path.

[Y'know. Just saying.]

Ehh? I said I was sorry!

[ Peach protests. ]

Where else am I supposed to get used to this, huh?

[Zeke shrugs, more like a roll of his shoulders than a lift.] Tell you what, I know a place where not many people come and there's plenty of space for anyone to see someone jolly rocketing at them like some fighting game character. And I'll give you a pointer or three. What do you say?

[ Peach takes a breath, then nods. ]

Yeah, please. I... I would really appreciate that.

Ha! My pleasure!

[Zeke flashes a grin so bright it almost audibly says 'gleam!', then turns sharply on his heels in a way that makes his skirt flare nicely.]

It's not far, just a quick jaunt this way.

[ Peach follows at Zeke's heels, awkwardly trotting for a moment to catch up. ]

Thanks. I'm still getting the hang of all this...

And that's where I tell you to join the Dreamer Union! Supporting new Dreamers is at its heart! Also, first test coming up!

[The brook up ahead isn't much -- Zeke's almost able to step over it, though he hops instead to land lightly on the other side.]

That's what they said at the Academy, yeah.

[ Peach pauses, then takes a little leap over after Zeke. This landing is fortunately more graceful. ]

This is where two of these streams meet. [Zeke points to some distance away, where the one they'd hopped over joins up with a slightly larger one.] Anyone who's coming has to get over them, so you'll see or hear them well before you launch yourself any which way.

Ah, yeah. I see.

[ The masculine pronoun again. Hm. ]

I'll be more careful in the future. I'm still learning so... thank you for your help and your patience!

[ Peach bows deeply. ]

I really appreciate it!

[Look, man. Dreamers are Dreamers. You don't question pronouns or identities, that's a sure way to put your foot so far in your mouth you're tickling your own big toes from the inside.]

No worries, chum. We all started somewhere. Wait till you get to the real fun stuff!

The real fun stuff? Like what?

[ The new magical girl seems a little surprised by Zeke's raw enthusiasm. ]

[Now, one might think that carrying around a giant sword would predispose a man to a certain answer. But rather than make some dramatic gesture with it, Zeke turns to sweep a hand out with a snap of his wrist to indicate -- something. That general direction out there.]
