in the valley of the dolls we sleep

" The crystals' power is tremendous! Their unstable output made the Union fret, but...if I can harness this energy, it will open up research possibilities we've only dreamed of.
At last, paradise will be mine to create. "
Welcome to...Turo's? Disturbance event! To recap from the monthly post, Disturbances are surreal and dangerous dreamscapes that draw directly on the struggles, fears and emotions of a single character, similar to the TV world dungeons in Persona 4 or the Heartscapes in Blue Reflection Second Light. They're unique among Outlying Locations in that they vanish once resolved and incubate extremely powerful enemies at their core who must be defeated to save the person at its heart – in this instance, it's Dreamer Miraidon!
Using the descriptions in the log below, you may freely toplevel and have characters explore and investigate as you please! The descriptions given in this log are to give direction and progression to the events but please feel free to play around within the bounds of what's established as much as you like. Characters wishing to investigate and uncover additional hints and lore nuggets at the heart of the dungeon should indicate they are investigating in the comment header of their toplevel.
To clear the event and prevent a negative outcome on the plot that will effect both the Dream Sphere and Yumemigaoka, characters must clear both the Mid-Tier and Boss Combat Encounters by the OOC deadline of June 7th.
THE GATES OF EDEN
- Upon entering the Dream, Dreamers will find themselves standing on the rim of a massive crater. The opposite side is hard to see; there's a thick layer of pale fog up here, obscuring vision. Dreamers will have to climb down in order to enter.
Fortunately, though the cliffs are steep, it's easy to find a carved path that spirals down into the depths. The grade is gentle, and there's no enemies here. It's a pleasant walk. Breaking through the fog cover, things only get better; the beauty of the Zero Crater spreads out before you. A tiered landscape of soft pastel grass, glittering crystalline spires, and sparkling waterfalls that cascade down from seemingly nowhere. There's no screams or haunting voices, just a gentle sound like windchimes.
This is a good dream. This is a paradise.
!THE PLAINS
Upon reaching the bottom of the crater, Dreamers will find themselves in an open plain. The grass is mostly a pale green, but pastel shades of other colors ripple as you move through it. In the taller grass, strange Torments occasionally slip out. They look almost like glass animal figurines, the kind a child might collect: ruby foxes, smoky glass rabbits, birds of sapphire and jet. As long as you're peaceful, they won't attack. But if you're too loud, or push forward too aggressively - well, it's your own fault, for shattering the peace of such a place.
In some places, there's grottos of trees, with crystalline bark and leaves that chime lightly as they blow in the wind. Some of the waterfalls from above terminate here, forming pools of cool, clear water. It's a peaceful environment. It even smells lovely. It's very tempting to sit down next to a pool for a while, or even just lay right down in the grass.
⧖ HAZARD ALERT: Those who sit and rest too long in a grotto will find the trees slowly shifting towards them. The slight tinkling of their crystalline roots and leaves as they move are often the only warning a Dreamer will receive before they're grabbed. If they seize a Dreamer, they will attempt to pull them into their trunk and grow around them, encasing them, too, in crystal. Fortunately, this is a slow enough process that you'll have plenty of time to call for help.
If a Dreamer can't be wrench free physically, the trees are still partially plants and can be repelled with fire. They will also let go if you sing them back to sleep.

!TUNNELS
There's cavern openings in the Crater. Some are simply in the walls, but most are underwater, hidden in those peaceful pools. Diving underneath, you surface again in a tunnel system. It's not cramped and winding like the Reverie Necropolis; here, the paths are wide, made entirely of glittering white crystal. Light refracts off it in rainbow hues, and it's clear enough that you can see yourself reflected in the depths.
The only thing is, you can't get out.
Attempting to turn around and exit the way you came, you'll find the entrance gone, as if it were never there. You'll simply have to keep moving forward, accompanied by a thousand faceted versions of yourself. You can feel them watching you.
⧖ HAZARD ALERT: If Dreamers touch the crystal walls, or spend too long observing their own reflections, they'll begin to grow increasingly disoriented. Are they reflections, or are they real? They seem to move first, sometimes, before the Dreamers themselves. Which of you is really the reflection here? Dreamers who spend too long engaging with their doppelgangers will find the reflections reaching out to drag them into the crystals, stepping out to take their place. Reflections will attempt to act like the originals in order to lead other Dreamers astray, spiraling deeper into the labyrinth.
Dreamers may free their trapped teammates by noticing that the reflections are fake and forcing them back into the walls. The reflections do not share the powers and abilities of the real Dreamer; it's not much harder than shoving a regular person, though they will protest, struggle, and cry that they're the real ones. Why are you turning on them like this? Their only real move is emotional manipulation, so they'll try their best.
The trapped Dreamers can also free themselves by simply shattering the crystals they're stuck in and breaking free. But it can be difficult to tell which facet is reality - a strong sense of self is needed, or else the help of someone else to keep you grounded.

!THE LAB
While making their way through the crystal caverns, Dreamers may stumble upon a strange, out-of-place door. It's grey and metal, entirely unremarkable except for the incongruity with its surroundings. Entering, they'll find themselves in a dimly lit lab space of sorts. It's cramped here. Every surface is piled with paperwork, and multiple computer monitors flicker with nearly incomprehensible graphs and spreadsheets.
Somewhere above, an old-fashioned loudspeaker crackles to life.
"Find me the energy readings from last week."
A man's voice. Those who have met Doctor Turo Morado will recognize it as his; those who have met his Figment may still recognize it as its. He gives nothing but the simple order. If you cast through the files and papers to do as he asks, yet another order will come. And another. And another. Each of them are simple grunt tasks, but they're never-ending. There is no reward, and there is no end. The door is locked. This is what you do now.
This game of Simon Says can only end by refusing or questioning the Doctor's commands. This gets the voice on the loudspeaker to finally respond directly to the Dreamers, snapping:
"Malfunctioning? Oh, well, we can fix that."
This is when the Torments will emerge - slender amethyst serpents that crackle with electrical energy. Dreamers will have to defeat them before the door will unlock and free them to continue through the caverns.
However, if you continue playing the good servant and following orders, eventually the voice giving them changes. It morphs, as it's speaking, into your own voice.
Here it comes.

!THE DEPTHS
Finally reaching the cavern depths, Dreamers will find a much more open environment, made of larger chambers with towering ceilings. As above, water flows down from some unknown source, creating a shallow pool that covers much of the ground throughout the chambers. It must be this water that feeds the purple flowers that grow everywhere down here. These are bioluminescent, glowing with a faint violet light of their own that illuminates the deeper caverns. Any other light sources will fail. But that's fine. It's pretty, isn't it?
Though the water here is never very deep, spending too long wading through it presents other dangers. It has a soporific effect, causing Dreamers to become sleepy and forgetful. Combined with the strange lighting, it becomes quite easy to lose the path. Fortunately, the glowing flower patches indicate where you can find strips of dry land. Some of these are narrow strips; some are larger islands. The flowers on the latter seem to grow bigger. There's some that are almost as large as a person, with drooping bell-shaped blooms and delicate trailing vines.
⧖ HAZARD ALERT: Dreamers will notice an intoxicating aroma emanating from the blooms of the larger purple flowers. Should they draw too close, the petals of the flower will close around them. They're soft and delicate, easily broken, except that being inside a flower traps a Dreamer in a vision of their ideal life. In this world, they're unaware that anything is wrong. Everything is going perfectly, somehow. They have everything they ever wanted. It's paradise.
Other Dreamers can try to free those trapped by attacking the flowers, but they will fight back, trying to use their vines to pull them in and trap them in visions of paradise by force. Fire magic is especially effective here, though if used against flowers that still have captives, there's a solid risk of harming the trapped Dreamer. Another option is to touch the trapped Dreamer, entering their vision. If they can be convinced to leave, they'll wake up, and it will be far easier to destroy the flower.

!PARADISE
But of course, this isn't an ordinary Disturbance. This one came with a guide.
The Figment knows the Crater. It also knows the Doctor. It's been moving throughout the Disturbance the entire time, trying to help various Dreamers navigate their way through. It's nigh useless in combat on the way down here - its attacks don't seem to have any effect on anything here - but it seems to always know where it's going. Eventually, it will successfully bring a small party to the heart of the caverns. It looks like a dead end, a tall wall of shining crystal that stretches beyond what anyone can see, but this is where it stops.
"Well," it asks. "Are you prepared?"

Amane-kun!
[Keiwa can't help but wince a little when LLENN (that was LLENN right? It sounds like her...) mentions heavy artillery and some of the real world consequences that would befall them if they could fight here as they did in the Dream Sphere. But... He also understood the desire to want to show people some of the things you could find there. The memory of Shinsha going through the fruit bowl to find seeds to plant for their hobby drifts across his mind, as well as his own thoughts about wanting to show his sister some of locations there.
There is a reason why people wanted to run away into the Dream Sphere, after all]
E-Even if that's the case... This can't be the way to go about it. Someone's going to get hurt if you keep this up!
[he doesn't sound all that convincing though]
no subject
What?! I don't see anyone else trying to stop him!
[... well, like. They were actually trying to be reasonable adults and talk him down without escalating into further conflict, but!! Clearly that wasn't working out in their favor!!
As if throwing a mug was any better, Amane???But then he hears the taller girl speak up, and-- wait. She wasn't the little pink one, was she...? Talk about differing identities between the realities! Although he didn't exactly have any room to speak on that end...
He swallows as she brings up a very good point, however-- what in the world were they going to do about him now? They couldn't fight him as they were, so... was this going to become a national incident? Were they going to have to get the military involved?
Oh look, Jeannette can finally get her chance to lead an army--But that's nothing compared to what the Professor says next, as he feels a clammy dread creep down his back."Become whatever you want to be, all the time"...
A year ago, he would have leapt at such an offer-- hell, even now, there's something about it that pulls to him, coaxing him to accept Turo's grand plans, but...
... no. Staying trapped in the bubble of one's dreams wasn't a way to live at all.]
You think everyone's going to use that power responsibly? We already got you running amok, after all.
[And one whack-job with delusions of grandeur was bad enough!! Something in his face shifts as he, too, thinks of Shinsha, thinks of their unwelcome and overwhelming power, before adding:]
... besides. Sometimes dreams are more painful than reality. Not all Dreamers would benefit from this, y'know.
no subject
Do you really think that is your choice to make? It is true that some people are not satisfied with their lives. It would probably be difficult to find someone that is entirely happy with how things have gone. Some people have worse problems then others. I, for instance, had a hard time liking myself over something as simple as my height. Again, I tell you that you haven't really thought this through at all. If I had simply run into dreams, where I am always tiny and cute, I would never have gotten over it. If I had the ability to just be LLENN forever, it would make me less mature as a person. I wouldn't have got myself and my feelings under control because I wouldn't have HAD to.
[A bit of annoyance slips into her voice. She doesn't know for sure if she's out of danger, but its not like she has a real machinegun to fire with.]
What Tycoon and Hanako say is true as well.
[She doesn't know Keiwa's actual name, and while she'd been made aware of Amane's in the past, it was tough to recall when staring up at the unholy combination of mad scientist and shiny art display.]
If you want to make you dreams reality, this is definitely the wrong way to do it. If you give everyone the power to do anything whenever they want, you won't be ushering in a new era for humanity, you'll be ending it. All it would take is a single person with a violent dream, and...well, the point I am making is that I see multiple reasons this is a bad idea, and not a single reason to accept it as a good one. You don't seem like a fool, I really should not have to explain to you what giving everyone infinite power would result in.
[Her arms cross, and she glares up at Turo, putting on a face to match the fierceness of her words.]
I know you have doubts about this, the part of you that lead us to you made that obvious. Perhaps its time you listen to that side of yourself. Its not too late, no one is hurt yet, nothing has been destroyed yet.
[Except that coffee cup. Poor coffee cup.]
no subject
[But it dawns on her: he's done it. It's too late to stop this. They didn't even know they were racing against the clock... and it's too late, now. Junna's whole body tenses up. She takes a step backward, listening to the others. Nodding at what Karen and Amane say. She hesitates for a second, fumbling around.
But she doesn't have a weapon. Instead, Junna's eyes shift -- and lock onto those lower, blinking eyes. Then, she feels a smidge of hope.]
...You're still in there, aren't you? The--the one I talked to. Before. In Ai-san's Disturbance. We--we want to help you.
Please. You can fight this.
no subject
If anyone acts out, I'll deal with them. Isn't that what Dreamers do? Really, if more of them Awaken due to this, that will be interesting data.
[But he is, it seems, content enough to talk now that it seems he's getting everything he wanted.
The lower pair of eyes, though, flashes as Junna addresses it. They only really talked once, but it doesn't - exist. It never really did. People shouldn't be speaking to it at all.
One of the lower hands twitches, and there's another flash of light. You're back in the Dream Sphere!]
no subject
Keiwa's head snaps over to look at Junna when she mentions the other Miraidon(?), surprised. The other- Was he still there? Was he asleep like Mio had been, trapped in the Night Terror?
(it doesn't make much sense, considering... Turo's the true Dreamer and the other Turo apparently isn't--)
He doesn't turn in time to notice the subtle movement, but back in the Dream Sphere again, Bujin has reset back into it's Ninja Dueller form. Even though it might be a drop in power, it opens up options for Tycoon to attack again]
People aren't just subjects to experiment on. You... You can't just force people to Awaken like that! [he holds up his weapon as it starts spinning throwing it as a giant shuriken at the crystal flower] A part of you know this is wrong! It's why we're here in the first place, otherwise we would never have found this place.
[left weaponless, Tycoon summons two Bunshin to help cover Hanako and Sage from a stray attack. As for the Dreamer himself, he turns to smoke to slip forward again to get closer to the flower]
no subject
But then Junna calls out to the Figment, and Amane unknowingly mimics Keiwa, his gaze darting back in her direction in surprise. Wait-- could it really still be in there?? He had assumed the Professor destroyed it after forcing those crystals to grow out of it's body, but... there were those extra eyes and limbs he had, so...
Before he can puzzle over it further, however, that flash of light hits again, and for a moment, Hanako flickers back into being with the others. But like the slippery edge of a dream escaping on the verge of consciousness, he's pulled right back out, wobbling on his feet as the DU lobby snaps into place all around him. No-- did his Finisher really run out already?? It's true time moved faster over there, but he didn't think it would have been this soon.
He swallows, assessing the now empty space he's found himself in. It was anyone's guess whether the others would return again, so in the meantime... maybe he ought to make a call or two, just in case. It was hard to say whether there were any other Dreamers or DU staff lingering around when there was an active Disturbance at play, but somebody had to know what was happening here, before it was too late.]
no subject
Maybe I was wrong and you ARE a fool. Dreams are where anything is possible. Anything includes someone taking whatever power you're using from you. I can't beat you right now? But in my dreams? I was holding back on you before because I thought we could reason with you. If I...
[Mid sentence, her voice becomes higher pitched and bit cuter sounding as she ceases being Karen and becomes LLENN again.]
..Wah! Anyway, if I don't hold back on you, then its all over! Let me show you why they call me the Pink Devil, idiot! But first....
[She nuzzles her pink machinegun like a mother cat tending to her kittens.]
Mommy missed you, P-chan! But don't worry, you're gonna get fed real good. Gonna serve you up one moron with an overinflated ego and no brains to match it!
[She glances around, quickly taking stock of the situation with the practice of a raiding expert. Spooky wasn't able to stick around, looks like the rules of the Dream Sphere hadn't changed just because of their brief trip home. That meant they were down to three. But that would be enough. Tycoon, or Keiwa as he was apparently called, was already on the move. The damaged pillars he'd been using to climb seemed to still be there. Perfect!
With Tycoon going after the flower, she intended to make sure there was no interference. With speed so fast its near impossible to follow, she begins scaling the damaged pillars. A pink blur is all that shows where she is moving. Its not long before she's at the top. The next pink blur zips dangerously close to Turo's face, not quite within arm's reach without him moving. There seemed to be no attack but if he was watching close enough, he could see her arm thrust upwards as she passed by. What she'd done would be obvious in a moment, as the same metallic pink grenade she'd tried to use on the flower earlier drops down directly in front of Turo, its countdown about to expire in a explosive burst. If her flight isn't interrupted, LLENN will land attached to one of the pillars like a particularly cute pink spider.]
no subject
...cuddle her gun...?] Uh. [Maybe unpack that later. Hanako isn't here, she realizes. And the time they have might be precious. She decides it's best to strike hard and fast -- to try to finish this.
As LLENN rushes in, fast as a blur, Junna manifests her sandglass bow again. She draws back her energy arrow, taking a deep breath. It gathers in power -- motes of brilliant green light draw down into it, radiance gleaming from the emerald on the top end of her bow. Her eyes lock onto both sets of Turo's.]
Professor! I'm sorry, but--you can't control people like this! You've lost sight of what it means to be a Dreamer... and we have to stop you!
[She unleashes the energy arrow. It explodes apart -- into twenty different arrows of gleaming emerald light. They arc out in twenty different arcs that cascade away from her -- and then all come back together, towards Turo. When they impact, they explode in brilliant flashes of green light. And Sage cries out, over all of it:]
STARLIGHT ARROW CASCADE!
no subject
He hits the ground amid a shower of rainbow light.]
You are the ones destroying everyone's chance to live their dreams!
[The man climbs to his feet. His crystalline wings are still there, seeming now to weigh him down. Blood drips from various wounds, unnervingly vibrant in this pale space. He bares his teeth at the sight of the emerald arrows.]
You're really willing to kill me for this? For the sake of the status quo?
[He'll try to dodge, but...it doesn't seem to be going too well.]
no subject
Bleeding-? [has he seen anyone bleed here, in the Dream Sphere? It never seems to quite look that way. But now that Sage has also used her Signature Attack, then it means her time in the Dream Sphere is also limited. Using the cover offered by the Arrows, Tycoon changes his weapon back to Bujin for the attack boost, causing the two Bunshin to disappear and drops into a crouched stance to prepare to quickdraw his weapon. Just before he does-]
We're not trying to kill you! But if you can't see how dangerous it would be to combine the Dream Sphere and the Waking World even after this, then we have to stop you somehow!
[still to Turo, but yet not quite;] That's the reason you brought us down here, right? To stop all this?
[attention back on the flower, he tries to slice through the stem of the flower. Once, then twice in quick succession before Turo has enough time to stop him.
To LLENN, he shouts;] Be careful where you hit him!
no subject
Kill you? Don't be stupid, this is the Dream Sphere, right? I could fill you with all the bullets in this clip and you'd just wake up in the real world. Here, let me give you a demonstration!
[Tycoon's words reach her ears before she's finished squeezing the trigger. She should be careful? Its enough to get through the battle haze that had started to get a grip on her, and her eyes finally notice the blood. Those wounds look awfully painful. And more importantly, realistic. Like wounds on a real body. She isn't sure what it means. Was it another trick? Or did it mean something more?]
I don't intend to be a murderer today any more then I intend to die today. But we're putting an end to this.
[She levels the barrel of her gun at the fallen Turo.]
That flower seems to be the key to all this. We're going to break it now. Don't interfere.
[She doesn't take her eyes off Turo as she speaks.]
I'll cover him. I won't fire if he doesn't move. Break that thing to bits, you two!
no subject
[LLENN will cover them. Sage looks at Tycoon and nods. She can feel the tug of the waking world. She doesn't have long. And going back with this unfinished is unsafe. For her, for everyone.
She draws back another energy arrow. It charges up, growing larger and larger. Then, Junna takes aim at the crystalline flower. She looses the energy arrow, which explodes on impact.]
no subject
[But this time, his attempt to protect the flower is far too little, too late. The machine explodes among a shower of even more crystalline shards. Turo throws up an arm to protect himself. Unlike the rest of you, the shrapnel certainly does seem to cut him - his blood is a little strangely iridescent.
This stays, along with the rest of the changes to his body. Destroying the machine isn't enough to revert that, it seems.]
How selfish. [He spits, fuming.] To destroy everyone else's chance like that. No matter - I'll make another.
no subject
He walks over to where Turo's currently held by LLENN, Bujin sheathed but a worried frown on his face as he looks over the older man's injuries]
What's happened to you? [he shakes his head, a little frantic] No, you need to wake up. Both you and the Other You.
[a pause, then he blurts out;] There's clearly something wrong! You can't stay in the Dream Sphere like this!!
no subject
The only selfish one here is you. Did you forget that your little experiment was messing with the real world, too? And did you think maybe some people don't WANT what you're doing? The fact that you even dare use a word like selfish to talk about anyone but yourself is just insane!
[With a one handed and somewhat lazy aim, she turns to her side, aiming her gun at the remnants of the flower machine, unloading magic bullets onto its remnants. It was probably unnecessary, but she was still a little annoyed.]
You'll be returning with us. I don't know what is going to happen to you, but its going to be a lot harder to do something like this in the future with a lot of eyes on you. And it'd really be better if you didn't try. Please, just think about what you almost did. Look at all that blood on you. Do you want that to be everyone? Do you really want a world where everyone has super dream powers, but its so dangerous they end up like you are? Consider this a failed experiment. I know part of you already knows we're right. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to do this.
[She spares a glance to Sage and Tycoon. Sage wasn't going to be here much longer. Hanako was already in the real world. That meant soon it'd just be her and Tycoon. Poor Keiwa gets a little smile from her.]
I...am pretty sure I won't be able to carry him. Hope you're up for some more exercise!
no subject
[Junna looks at Tycoon, then LLENN. Can they arrest him? How does this even work? Hopefully Amane has called someone.
Maybe Zeke-san if they need literal muscle.]
We're trying to help you.
