⭐ What: Ryoko's life has flip turned upside down and now she's getting used to it. Between starting as a new student at Promised Morning and suddenly having another Dreamer to feel responsible for, she's got a busy month ahead. I'll also put closed starters here if requested!

[ Ryoko doesn't respond right away. She shifts from one foot to the other. Itches the back of her neck. Doesn't quite meet Sam's eyes.

Hold on, is she... a little embarrassed? ]

I was just thinking... you don't need to be a Mentor to look out for someone and help them with training, right?

Heck no! I mean, we all ought to look out for each other anyway. At least if you ask me. [Sam can't help but smile a little at that.] And I'm sure the DU probably likes it better when things are all laid out on paper and official, but sometimes, things just don't work that way, you know?

And that's okay!
Just know that if you feel like you're in over your head? We're a resource to help you get out of that. Everyone needs a little help from time to time.

[ Her expression eases just a little and while she doesn't do anything as call out-able as sighing, there's an audible relief of breath that telegraphs her relief. ]

I don't know about getting in over my head necessarily, it's just... somebody Awakened when I was protecting him from a Nightmare. And now I sort of feel... responsible for him.

Really? Damn. Yeah...I can see how things might fall out that way for you, then. I know my opinion...probably doesn't mean jack, but I feel like it's pretty cool that you decided to look out for the guy.

[She was pretty clearly startled by the admission that someone Awakened on Ryoko's watch--but Sam almost feels dumb for being so surprised. Why couldn't that happen?

She'd best be careful, is what she thinks.]

If you don't really want to deal with the DU much, would you want to take my phone number, just in case? To help out if you need it. And if you don't, you don't, it's cool either way.

[ Ryoko's always a little stonefaced but at that, her expression shifts just a bit in a way that makes her look – pleased? Bashful? It's hard to tell. It's nicer than the sour look she was wearing just a moment before at any rate. ]

Is that really okay? You're probably busy enough with what the DU has you do without having to deal with me asking questions too.

It's okay. I can handle it. They have me doing tour guide stuff here, sometimes some "move box A to site B" and that's fine. So long as if you text me, you understand I might take a little bit to respond.

So if it's an emergency, you call me. I won't give them details about you or your mentee. I assume the less the DU knows, the happier you'll be. But if you're calling, I know I have to take it, you know?

[Sam's pretty responsible, job-wise, so she figures it'll be fine, there. And if it's on personal time, well, then it's her time to do with as she pleases.]

[ Ryoko nods firmly. ]

Right. I'll be pretty surprised if there ends up being an emergency emergency, but...

[ From the little she knows and the even less she remembers of Shu Amiguchi, the possibility of him getting involved in some sort of shenanigans on a moment's notice is a distinct one.

For all that she's wrinkled up her nose at the idea of the DU being of any help to her in the past, it does make her feel a little better to know there's a person who has her back with this, if nothing else. ]

Anyway. It doesn't really have to be a big secret. I just don't want them pestering me to make this or that official or signed on paper or whatever.

Well, always better to have something of a plan in place, if an emergency actually happens. At least this way you'll have someone to call.

[Sam fully intends to keep her promise to not get the official DU involved unless she absolutely has to. If Ryoko has been fine so far, she's clearly capable of handling things on her own.]

Eh, they might, so for the moment, better they don't know. I'm planning to be a safety net, but if anything crazy happens, I probably ought to let them know.

[She'd try not to run off to the DU unless the situation was dire, but also Ryoko ought to know that option is there.]
