[ It's like Illya is trying to figure out if it would be a social faux pas here to admit that she doesn't have any sheep.. I-Is that weird now? Is she the weird one?! ]

Your life is really.. [ Pause. It's like she's looking for the right word. ] A-Amazing.
[ That feels like the nicest word for it. And Illya wants to use a nice word! She thinks Jeannette is sweet, the last thing she'd want to do is insult her.. Even accidentally.. ]
I mean, I don't think I've heard of anyone else doing all of these things..! It's like you're living your life on some amazing level, high above everyone else's!

[ Pot, kettle. But Illya doesn't even see that she's the pot right now, because she's very much stuck in her more idealized mental image of Jeannette.. There's no way she could ever compare herself to her! ]

[ Ah, Jeannette knows something she can use. It is embarrassing, but...
She bends down to be more at Illya's height and whispers, like it's a secret. ]
...How many kanji do you know?

[ Though that isn't so strange, given that Illya clearly doesn't look all that old yet. She's definitely a middle schooler. ] Maybe about.. 1300? 1400?
[ Most people would grasp where this is going from context clues - like asking that question right now, and Jeannette's whispering - but apparently Illya doesn't. She blinks at the other girl like she's a little confused, before asking: ]
Why? Is that important..?

It's a good point, but it's difficult to determine just whether it's landing with Illya or not. Especially when she's staring blankly at the other girl for a few moments, like she's thinking about these words..
And then, when she finally speaks up, it's with: ]
Do you.. feel embarrassed for not knowing as many kanji..?
[ Illya, girl!! You're not meant to point that out!!
But she sounds and looks so innocent as she says it that it's likely that she isn't even realizing she might accidentally be further embarrassing poor Jeannette.. ]

T-there are simply so many! And they are most complicated....you are a marvel to not mix them up......

[ Maybe it's not really the most useful offer of help, and Illya knows it. Surely Jeannette is getting lessons in them at school, or maybe she's even getting private lessons already.
But there's no way Illya can hear about someone suffering a problem that embarrasses them and then just leave it alone. Ignore it. There's no way. She's going to be worrying about Jeannette feeling bad about not knowing kanji now!! ]
It's-- um, I mean, I guess it can be difficult, but it's not that hard when you know easier ways to learn them!

Yeah! I-- um, I didn't live in Japan until a few years ago, so I had a whole lot to catch up on too! [ Sure, she did already have a bit of a head start since she got to learn some Japanese even while traveling the world.. It's the benefit of having a Japanese father, really. ]
But I figured out some ways that make it feel way easier! So if you need help.. I mean, I-- I have time!

[ Dare she hope for an international friend....? How wonderful. She'd love to hear about wherever else Illya has lived. It's bound to be just as interesting, or more so, than her family's sheep farm, because all of God's Creation is interesting and good. ]

[ Illya beams a smile. Really, she's just happy to be able to be of use for once.. It's not like she has many talents to use for that, after all! But Jeannette happens to be behind compared to her when it comes to one thing.. ]
I don't go to Promised Morning yet though, so.. um, instead of doing it at school, maybe we could just do it here at the Dreamer Union? [ Bringing someone home feels Weird. Especially when the other doesn't know about the situation of her household yet.. N-Neutral territory is better, right? No weird questions there! It's safe! ] I'm sure they won't mind us sitting around!

T-Then we have to do everything we can to avoid that happening again! [ The only thing worse than being held back once is being held back twice, clearly.. ] L-Let's start practicing tomorrow! I.. um, I'll try to see if I can prepare something!
[ Illya seems so worked up about this.. So much energy going on here.. ]

[ And who knows? Maybe having Illya to work for, instead of merely herself, will be what Jeannette needs to really buckle down and study! She has always been much better at doing things for others' sakes than for her own. ]
