greaterspeed: (Gravity can't hold us down)

[he doesn't get away from that burst attack, but Sonic skids back and dashes off again with barely a flinch so it might be hard to pick up on the fact that her attack was successful while she's so emotional. He has to work to dodge the shrapnel burying itself in anything stationary, so Rhodonite got her hard won break from this speedster poking in and out of her personal space.

Sonic stops a short distance away, near enough to be in earshot (and firing range) but just out of line of sight for a moment. Poor girl... He can't imagine bottling all those feelings up for who knows how long, but it does explain how she behaves a little bit. Always some measure of anxious over saying the wrong thing, worried about being seen the wrong way, never really content with who she is. She really can't keep fighting in a place like this when her headspace is like that.

Once she screams her frustrations into the air, he let's out a short sigh]
There we go.

[he takes a blind dash out from his hiding spot, a trail of blue light behind him as he Boosts past the lasers, one step ahead as she's left to react to his movement. Sonic zig zags around, jumps over some of the lower shots and slides under the higher ones. He moves so fast that his movements are reflexive; they have to be, because anything less leaves him open to running right into an attack rather than dodging it. No onlooker would know about the amount of time and practice Sonic's sunk into making his movement this smooth. But that seems to be the theme of this place; the unacknowledged work that goes into outwards appearances and the toll it takes on the person trying to maintain the veneer.

In a shocking display of patience (though it probably doesn't feel particularly patient for Rhodonite), Sonic waits for a lull in the onslaught. Once he spots the opportunity, he closes the distance with a burst of speed, one hand closing on Rhodonite's left to stop her fingers moving along the frets of her bass]

You don't have to be sorry for anything.

[then, he's sweeping her legs out from under her before launching a powerful roundhouse kick to her (left!) side before she's even hit the ground]

But you're going to need to go for a time out!
