Tanabata Log

YUMEMIGAOKA

As it is every year, Yumemigaoka's annual Tanabata festival is held at the street just outside of the Hikawa Shrine. The street and the shrine itself have been closed off during the day beforehand and despite the absolute rancid weather, the community has come together to get the festival space set up and ready for everyone to enjoy. And somehow, as they usually do, things just seem to come together somehow.

Come seven in the evening, the street opens to pedestrians and the festival finally kicks off. A steady, misty drizzle of rain persists through the entire evening but somehow, it just adds to the dreamy atmosphere. Hanging lanterns twinkle with raindrops and cast a warm glow over the street, paper stars are fluttering gently down from strings strung between lampposts and stalls line the full length of the street with food offerings, festival games and just about everything in between. In the wake of all the chaos over the last few months, isn't it nice that some things are still simple, quiet and unchanged?

For folks looking for games, they can enjoy:

⧖ The most popular stalls, the shooting games! Using a gun loaded with paper bullets (so, you know, mostly harmless) the aim of the game is to get a clean hit on one of the prizes along the back of the booth and knock it down! The prizes are mostly candy, snacks or kids' toys but they're deceptively hard to get a good shot at...
⧖ Goldfish scooping, a summertime classic! Using a scooper with a thin sheet of paper for the net, try your best to catch as many goldfish swimming around the water below. Do well enough and you'll win a prize and you might even be able to take your goldfish home - make sure to take good care of it!
⧖ Senbonbiki is basically pure luck - bundles of prizes, usually candies and small toys, are strung up along the top of the stall and you just have to give the corresponding other end of the string a tug. Whichever bundle of snacks comes down is yours! Of course, if you're particularly unlucky then you might get a dud or penalty prize... but surely nobody's luck is THAT bad, right?
⧖ Ring toss! Throw rings onto targets marked "1" through "10", each worth different amounts depending on where they land. Beat the high score and you'll win a prize! Though do you really want to walk around the whole festival with a giant plushie under your arm all night...?

There's also a ton of options for Japanese street food; some traditional, others more modern takes. There's fried stuff, grilled skewers, rice balls, all manner of delicious noodle dishes and mountains of sweets too; taiyaki, chocolate covered bananas, shaved ice, cotton candy, and just about everything and anything else you'd want to spend an evening stuffing your belly with. And naturally there are plenty of drinks available including freshly squeezed fruit juice and tea and some booze for those who feel like playing with fire.

Aside from the rest of the festivities, the main event is really the hanging of wishes - it is Tanabata, after all. A few tables at the top of bottom of the street have been set up to carefully shelter them from the rain and have a whole rainbow of tanzaku for people to write and hang their wishes on the bamboo trees both in the street and in the shrine down below. You can hang as many wishes as you like, if you're feeling particularly greedy, but...

The festival doesn't really reach its peak until darkness falls and, undeterred by the continued drizzle, the Hikawa Shrine lights up the sky with its famous annual fireworks show - it's always pretty spectacular but perhaps out of spite for the nasty weather, it looks even more fantastic than usual this year.

With the fireworks done, the festival begins wrapping up and it's time to head home. But just as with last year, the night's festivities seem to have only just begun and as you drift off to sleep that night, you feel a gentle unmooring as you're carried off to somewhere new...

THE DREAM SPHERE

Most people in Yumemigaoka seem to have known what was coming tonight and sure enough, it's happened again - a week's worth of dreams of a strangely vivid image, an enormous bamboo tree with a wide canopy of leaves under a dazzling night sky, just like last year. And, just like last year, when you fall asleep on Tanabata evening, you find yourself arriving Somewhere Else.

The dream unfolds as an expansive open field, drenched in the silvery light of a magnificently star-spangled sky above and cut through with a river of flowing water that reflects the sky so clearly, it looks to be filled with stars of its own. Just like the real festival, there's a fine rain drizzling down from the sky, filling the air with mist and the sweet fragrance of the hundreds of tiny, bell-shaped flowers swaying lazily in the grass. And at the center of the field, just as it was last time, is the bamboo tree from your dreams. In the year since last Tanabata, it seems to have somehow gotten even taller and even though it's so huge, though, it doesn't seem like a threatening presence at all. Its branches are spread out even wider than before, hanging low enough for you to reach out and touch and this time, they're not just weighed down by tanzaku strips but glass wind chimes, too, that tinkle and sing whenever the breeze rustles the trees.

It seems tht once again, the magic of those two starcrossed lovers has allowed everyone in Yumemigaoka to cross the Dream Sphere tonight, Dreamer or not! The effect will only last until morning, at which point the dream will unravel, so you might as well enjoy it while you're here. Many of the mundane dreamers will find they're able to move differently in the Dream Sphere, running faster and jumping impossibly high and long distances with nary a scratch to show for it; no magic of their own yet, but at least enough to have a little fun while they're here.

There's a little bit of natural magic at play here in the environment, too. If you approach the tree with a wish in mind, there's no need to write it down; it'll appear in pretty, sparkly ink on an appropriately colored tanzaku strip, already tied to the tree. Or if you go to peer at your reflection in the river, you might see it take on a shape that reflects the wish you're carrying in your heart.

    ... Except...

What sort of things are you really wishing for? The things you won't admit out loud to anyone, or even to yourself? The deepest wishes right in the darkest part of your heart that you want more than anything? Unfortunately for you, this tree seems to be of a mind to grant wishes and once it's gathered enough of everybody's tanzaku, there's a bright flash of light...

And suddenly everyone's secret wishes have been made manifest... though only in the Dream Sphere, of course. These can be anything from silly wishes to something more serious - the important part is that these secret dreams and wishes have been pulled out of your head and put on display for everyone here to see! How on earth are you going to deal with this gracefully?!

Regardless of what you choose to do, the apparitions only last for an hour or so before fading away and the sky lights up with a beautiful meteor shower that seems to go on forever. You're free to stay and watch the meteor shower and enjoy your last moments in the Dream Sphere for as long as you like but eventually, as you're watching the stars streak down from the sky, the dream around you begins to gradually fade away until you find yourself stirring in your own bed. Though it was an exceptionally busy dream, you find you're well rested and... okay, maybe a little embarrassed after all that.

Nobody will be able to return to that strange field or find the dream to stabilize it but... maybe that's fine. Aren't some things all the more special for only happening once a year?

[1) pre-festival]

[Maki's not here in her capacity as a DU tech, but she is here for her other job at the Yumemigaoka tourism board! She's got a nice black-and-pink Yumemigaoka Tourism polo shirt like the other workers, and she's setting up canopies and running around with an umbrella.]

Of course it's raining again. You know, I'd prefer the heat on a day like this.

[2) festival - games]

[This time she's running a stall for a lot of the festivities! Ring toss is pretty simple, and the prizes on display range from balls to plushies to character face masks. Maki will greet you if you come over.]

Hey, how's the festival going? We could use the break this year.

[3) festival - tanzaku]

[Maki does make her way over to the bamboo, smiling or shaking her head at the decorations community members put up, and she hesitates for a moment before writing a wish.]

I wish for no more catastrophic Dream Sphere incidents

[It's not her true biggest wish. It just feels like a safe one.]

[4) Dream Sphere]

[The same thing happened again. She's there. She looks brighter, bolder, she's on TV and on magazine covers all over the Dream Sphere, talking heads discussing her miraculous rise to fame. Maki shuts it out as she tries to keep her head down.]

It's just like last year. I gave up, okay? It gave up on me first!

i. festival - goldfish

[It's been a long time since Bruno got to play any carnival games! He's been trying his hand at several of them, just paying for a round or two of each before moving on - he's not really too invested in any of the prizes. Not like there's any kids he can give them to anymore.

Antonio probably would've liked the big stuffed animals. Oh, well.

Unfortunately, his language lessons haven't included a lot of carnival-specific vocabulary, so Bruno didn't really fully understand all of the rules. Or the fact that he would be getting an actual living fish as a prize from this game???]

Um...does anyone want a...a fish?

[Bruno cradles the bag carefully in his hands, holding it up to anyone who seems interested. He likes fish fine and all, but he doesn't have a tank setup. He lives in an abandoned DU supply closet! There's not even a water line in it!]

ii. festival - food/wish-making tables

[Fair food! This is also something Bruno hasn't had for a minute!

A lot of it's different from home, of course. Really, most of it is. But he's been here long enough to develop some favorite Japanese sweets, so there's plenty of treats here to get excited about it. And enough money to get it all, too! He's having a nice time!

It's an open-air festival, and he's seen people with dogs around...so it's not exactly the same as having the rats out at a restaurant, right? Bruno still goes to the end of a lesser-occupied table before laying out the spread and releasing the Beasts. There's only five of them along today, and they wait patiently while Bruno cuts small pieces of chocolate-covered banana up.]

Just a little for a treat...

[He's shoved all of the wish-making materials off to the side. He doesn't want to deal with that.]

iii. general - the dream sphere

[This is Bruno's first Tanabata here. He didn't experience this whole massive shared dream the last time! Of course, he travels to the Dream Sphere pretty much every time he sleeps, so this doesn't immediately strike him as weird outside of the new setting.

After wandering around for a little while, though, he does start to pick up on how many of the people here are just...not Dreamers. Not newly-Awakened Dreamers, just...regular normal people in their normal civilian clothes, enjoying their first lucid dream.

That's super weird! He's never seen anything like it before! But, it also presents a bit of an opportunity. So Dreamer Omen slips off for a moment, disappearing, and then a little later on Bruno himself appears, dressed in his favorite green hoodie and jeans. Just...just a regular guy! Who is here now! For the very first time ever!]

Oh, wow. [At least it's easy to stare at the giant tree in awe. It's gorgeous!] This - is this a real Dream?

iv. wishes - the dream sphere

[Sure, it's all fun and games for a little while. Bruno socializes a little and pretends to be a kid learning how the Dream Sphere works for the first time again. He doesn't even make any wishes for this tree either! He has absolutely nothing to do with any of this!

So it is not his fault when, amid a flash of light, he's seemingly entirely surrounded by the entire Madrigal clan!

Bruno's swept up in both of his sister's arms immediately, being squeezed between them as the rest of the family gathers around amid a sudden loud chatter of delight. It's Bruno! Bruno's back! Uncle Bruno, our little Brunito! Even Mamá and Mirabel are here despite neither being Dreamers.]

Um. Uh...what...?

[Bruno knows this isn't real. Due to the flash of light and sudden appearances, and also how none of these people are even on the same continent as him anymore. He's still frozen, limp as his fake family members jostle him about.]

[Ango is flipping through one of the glossy celeb magazines bearing Maki's face, hoping for an exclusive Maki summer photoshoot... a guy can dream, right?]

Hey, you've already got one fan!
Edited 2024-07-09 00:58 (UTC)
saynotobugs: Melancholy look. (sigh)

[personal profile] saynotobugs 2024-07-09 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, Sakaguchi? [Maki rolls her eyes.] Not the time to be looking for blackmail, or whatever it is you're doing.

[personal profile] darknesshotpot 2024-07-09 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Blackmail? I would never. I practically owe you my life! If not for the free donuts you leave in the break room, I'd probably starve to death.

[Alas, the feature photoshoot is glamorous and tasteful... this is Maki's fantasy, after all.]

But you know, if you do ever want to give it another go... I've still got a few connections in the movie business.
saynotobugs: Bemused. (huh)

[personal profile] saynotobugs 2024-07-09 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
...Why do you do it? You, Genbu, Hoshino. Why do you all say that stuff? I didn't have what it took the first time.
darknesshotpot: (sleepy)

[personal profile] darknesshotpot 2024-07-09 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
...You've still got the dream, right? That's gotta count for something. Maybe the only thing you were missing last time was a lucky break.

But if you don't wanna think about it, I'll let it go. I'm still a fan either way.
saynotobugs: Yelling angrily. (hey stop)

[personal profile] saynotobugs 2024-07-09 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I had one, and then I wasted it. You know when they stopped returning my calls? I was on a variety show, one of those where you have to do stupid stuff for the audience. They were putting us through dares and they told me to eat a live cicada.

I chickened out. Some other rising starlet ate the thing instead, smiled for the camera and everything. She's still got a career. And I tanked mine and ended up here, all over a stupid bug.
darknesshotpot: (oh shit)

[personal profile] darknesshotpot 2024-07-09 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
...What the actual fuck? That's... that's not even entertainment, that's just cruel...

[...But that kind of hazing is rampant in show business. Ango was only ever a scriptwriter, but he saw enough of it behind the scenes. He reaches for a cigarette and his lighter, scowling.]

....They weren't looking for somebody with talent, they were looking for somebody too afraid to say no. You didn't chicken out, you showed them that you weren't afraid to stand up to somebody with more power than you.
saynotobugs: Smile to the side. (here you go)

[personal profile] saynotobugs 2024-07-09 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's how it works with a lot of these things. People want someone who won't back down, or however they're gonna phrase it.

[Maki hesitates. She sighs and shakes her head. Ango gets a small smile.]

...you know what? Thanks, Sakaguchi. You say some surprising things sometimes.
darknesshotpot: (excited)

NIGHTMARE ENCOUNTER lol just kidding

🌸~Tanabata Wishes~🌸

What the fu... Hey, you dumb wish-granting tree, I wished for a swimming pool full of booze and scantily clad girls, not... whatever this is!

[Ango is wearing a suit. An expensive-looking looking dove grey suit, with a violet silk tie (which he immediately loosens) and a matching handkerchief tucked neatly into the pocket. Since when does he own a handkerchief? Most of Ango's fantasies involve less clothing, not more, so what the hell is this...?

And what's with all the flowers? Is this supposed to be Ango's funeral? Enormous floral displays in pale pink and baby blue line a petal-strewn path to a gazebo covered in climbing roses, where a multi-tiered wedding cake awaits...

Wait a minute, whose dream is this!? It's definitely not his dream! Ango has spent the past 38 years resolutely committed to the freewheeling life of a bachelor, only showing up to weddings when there's an open bar and he's not invited. He's not the kind of guy who goes all domestic and starts picking out curtains when he meets a girl. Ango doesn't even own curtains! He's a financially and mentally unstable loser who's never had a real job! He's not husband material!]

Ango, daaarling~! It's time to tie the knot~~

[The silk tie around his neck feels like a noose. Dreading the inevitable, Ango turns towards the cheerful voice... it's Ai, and she's beautiful. Dressed in a airy confection of white satin and tulle, she looks like a goddess descending from the heavens to bestow her blessing of love upon a mere mortal...]

W-wait, I'm not ready for this!

[Is it just his imagination, or are Ai's starry eyes a shade pinker than usual?

Ango takes off at a run, shoving his way through the Tanabata crowd. If Ai catches up to him, it's all over - she's gonna turn him into a wife guy, and the scariest thing is that there's a part of him that thinks it wouldn't be so bad...]

Somebody, help! I've gotta hide!!

[Oh. It's this again.]

[You know. You'd think a year down the line, something would have been different. Something would have changed. And yet here we are again.]

[If Zeke Genbu, Dreamer Chaosbringer, were any less himself, he'd be very depressed right about now.]

...Look, is lying to yourself about it all really the way?
saynotobugs: Depressed. (well...)

[personal profile] saynotobugs 2024-07-09 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maki looks away. There's no retort this time. Too mush has happened. She just crosses her arms.]

If I do want it, then what? I didn't have what it took, so it doesn't matter.
thezekeinator: (objection!)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2024-07-09 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's be real about this, okay? A huge chunk of it is luck, and you know it. All you didn't do is get lucky yet, and the more you try, the more likely it is you will. You've got everything else it could possibly need.

festival

[ It might be gloomy out and that probably isn't exactly the energy you want for Tanabata, but misty, rainy evenings like this are Ai's absolute favourite. Everything seems soft and dreamy at the edges and with this many people around, it's easier for her to melt into the crowd and enjoy herself without attracting too much attention. And how does she manage that? Well...

At some point in the evening, you might spot someone wandering around in a pretty bunny themed yukata with one of those cartoony character masks on the side of their head, obscuring their face just a little - rather than a fictional character, though, the mask is a cartoony rendition of Dreamer Ai-Doll's smiling face. But if you happen to get a proper look at the mask wearer herself, you'll realize that the person under it is... Ai herself?????

When she realizes she's been caught, she blinks - and then gives a wink, putting her finger to her lips. ]

Sssh, don't give the game away. This trick usually works so well!

[ It really is some kind of audacious to hide behind a mask of her own face, made even worse for the fact that it's working like a charm...

It's enough for her to enjoy the festival mostly unfettered, at least. Officially, she's here on her own, but if she just happens to end up hanging out with Aqua and Ruby, then that's fine with her. As is tradition, they do a little bit of family stuff together and then break off to have their own fun before heading own for the evening.

For Ai, that means heading over to the games and giving them all a try. She knows better than to even try goldfish scooping or the shooting games, but senbonbiki and ring toss are easy enough! She wins a few bags of snacks to take home for the kids later before heading over to the ring toss and... doing surprisingly well?! Even Ai doesn't seem to believe it. ]

Huh! I guess all that practice on the other side really does pay off. [ The stall owner comes over with her prize and she laughs as she takes it. ] Aw jeez, I missed out on the one I was aiming for, though... here, do you want it?

[ It's The Ugliest Plushie You've Ever Seen. And yet... do you really want to turn down a gift from Ai...???

    Once things start winding down, Ai eventually heads over to write down her wish. She borrows a pen (she somehow forgets every year...) and after some deliberation writes a short and simple wish;

"I hope all my kids are happy and healthy this year and every year to come."

She considers it for a second then huffs a soft laugh to herself. ]

You think maybe that's a little too much to ask?

dream sphere

[ Ah. It happened again. At least this time they had a little advance warning - a whole years' worth, if you want to get technical about it - and yet, Ai's stomach still lurches a bit to find herself back at this tree and this misty field again. It feels so calm and peaceful here that she wants to believe everything is fine, but... well, after what just happened at what was supposed to be another nice and calm and peaceful event in the Dream Sphere, can you blame her for being a little paranoid?

She keeps her distance from the wishing tree - she's just self aware enough to know exactly what sort of wish everybody would see in her heart and she's not about to risk letting it spill out in front of all these watching eyes. So, with a smile on her face, she sticks to the fringes of the gathering and does her best to rope a few other Dreamers in so her wallflowering is a bit less obvious. ]

Sorry to interrupt! Mind coming along with me to patrol the perimeter? Nothing came up last year but with the way things have been lately, better safe than sorry, you know?

[ She does return to the thick of things once the apparitions have vanished, though - just in time to gaze up at the sky and watch that beautiful shower of stars come pouring down. A misty sigh flutters out of her, a delicate cloud of fog in the damp air and despite everything... she smiles. ]

This place is a whole lot of trouble... but where else would you see a star shower like that on Tanabata?

festival - cat-anuki

[It's admittedly been a while since Amane's been to one of these things-- either the weather wound up too miserable, or his body was having a bad health day, or an unfortunate mixture of both. But he was feeling better than usual this year (more so than he had in months), and while the drizzly, misty rain wasn't ideal festival-going weather, at least it wasn't the scorching heat or the torrential storms that usually plagued the city in the summer. And that was a plus, wasn't it?

One would think he would immediately be all over the other game stalls upon arrival (or at least loading himself up with festival snacks), but nope-- instead, he's parked squarely at the katanuki booth, clad in a fairly simple black and red yukata with a Teki-Terra mask perched upon his head, bent over one of the delicate candy wafers on the table. Slowly, carefully, he picks away at the outline, doing his best to be cautious around the more delicate corners, until...

CRACK.

His shoulders slump as he picks up the broken edge of the wafer, a pout crossing his face as he observes the damage.]

Awww... I almost had it this time, too.

[After about half an hour (and some successful cut-outs), Amane seems to have had his fill of the booth-- or, he would, if he wasn't in the midst of tugging on the sleeve of an identical boy, clad in a purple jinbei, hunched over a growing pile of completed wafers with laser-sharp focus. His twin's eyes are glued solely to the outlines on the candy, the needle in his hand scratching around them with an almost scary intensity.]

Tsukasa, c'mon, we were going to hit up the yakisoba stand next, remember?

[*scritch scritch scritch*]

... seriously, you've done like-- fifteen of these already. That's enough for now, right?

[*SCRITCH SCRITCH SCRITCH*]

... Ugh, Tsukasaaaaaaaa! I don't wanna be here all night!

[*SCRITCHSCRITCHSCRITCH*]

[Letting out an aggrieved sigh, he lets go of his brother's sleeve, eyes glancing through the crowd for a familiar face or a means to escape. It's not like he wanted to ditch his sibling or anything, but he also didn't want to be stuck at the katanuki booth for three hours... again. Someone help?]

festival - too much swag in my bag

[Whether he managed to dodge out of Katanuki Hell by tagging along with a friend, or just finally up and left Tsukasa behind, Amane's going to exploring the festival in earnest, dropping in on all sorts of stalls to try his hand at the games. Some he's decent at, while other's he's abysmal (those darn goldfish never seemed to stay in the scoop!!), but over the course of the night he winds up accumulating all sorts of goofy swag prizes that he's not entirely sure what to do with. Some of them he's definitely keeping, while others he's all too keen to give away, sorting through his collection of things at the wish-making tables while munching through his vast assortment of festival food.]

Want one? I got way too many of these.

[.... yeah, he's sure offering you a fan with this weird ass thing on it. A-At least it isn't one of the massive stuffed toys, though?]

dream sphere - I'M BACK IN THE FUCKING TREE REALM AGAIN??

[Perhaps Hanako should have seen this coming, after all of those strangely vivid dreams over the past week, but... surely this sort of thing didn't happen twice, right? It was all just a huge coincidence?

But... nope. Here he was, back in this stupid field, surrounded by Dreamers and non-Dreamers alike, staring down this huge honking tree yet again. The look upon his face is unreadable as he stares up at the majestic mass of branches, gaze silently traveling higher and higher as if he's sizing the whole structure up. Finally, he turns towards whomever is nearby, a blithe smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes fixed upon his features, as he asks, quite non-chalantly:]

Hey, you got a lighter on you?

[HANAKO????? NO!!!!!]

dream sphere - dreeeeeeam loverrrrr

[When he isn't debating arson, however, Hanako's going to take to patrolling with some of the others around the perimeter of the dream, deliberately keeping himself away from the great tree in the distance. He learned his lesson last year, thank you very much!!! It was already bad enough that people had poked through his head during his Disturbance-- he didn't want more of his heart out on display for others if he could help it. Of course, the patrolling is more or less a formality-- it's quiet (almost blissfully so, after the past few months) and just a touch boring, getting his eyes to wander to the sparkling sky more than a few times, murmuring:]

At least the stars are nice out here, though...

[But, of course, the tricky Tanabata tree won't be denied so easily, and while it doesn't necessarily replay it's slideshow of anguish from last year, there is one repeat that flickers into view when he least expects it-- Amane walking along Moon Bunny Market hand-in-hand with a girl, giggling and chatting as they check out the stores and enjoy one another's company. The girl's silver hair flutters in the breeze as they stroll along, the green tips sparkling in the light as she turns to him, smile bright and sweet as her attention is on him and solely him, and--

...... wait, isn't that girl... sort of familiar?? Those thick legs certainly couldn't be confused with anyone else's, that's for sure.

Hanako's head slowly swivels around, his cheeks bright red and his mouth agape, and... is he embarrassed?? Could Dreamer Hanako actually GET embarrassed?? Holy cow.

Before anyone can fully take in the sight of this UR Flustered Hanako, however, he lunges forward, his hands grappling to cover the eyes of whoever was unfortunate enough to see this, his voice rising to an almost hilariously desperate pitch.]

Yeah, you're right about that. That I'd expected from you, Mr. Ai Fanclub.

A... fish?

[Shinsha never plays the fish game at festivals - they aren't very good at it, for one thing, and it seems likely that most of the "winning" fish will end up languishing in a glass bowl for a few weeks before being unceremoniously flushed down the toilet. Most people don't have the equipment or knowledge needed to properly care for a fish, and those tiny goldfish quickly outgrow a small bowl...]

Th-there's a koi pond at the temple where I grew up... I used to help take care of the fish, so...

[They hesitate and fuss with their long, reddish hair - they aren't used to talking to people in the real world.]

...I could keep it for a while, and then take it to the temple when it gets bigger.

Ahhh. So that's how it is.

[It's not like Cinnabar didn't have their suspicions. Yashiro-san is a frequent customer at Camellia, after all, and Amane is clearly interested in her... but they didn't know that his romantic intentions were so wholesome. It's... it's so cute...]

Holding hands? How scandalous.

[Cinnabar's deadpan expression doesn't change... or is there the slightest hint of an amused smirk at the corner of their mouth?]

NIGHTMARE ENCOUNTER X2

[ The first time. The first time Aqua has ever been in the dreamsphere, something he's been secretly looking forward to ever since he missed it during tanabata last year...

...and thanks to THIS FUCKER. It's been tainted forever. ]

Yeah, sure. I'll help you hide. [ Good god if Ango thought Aqua looked murderous last time they met and got chewed out by Ai, there is a new level of hate in his eyes right now. ] Come here.

[ How is it that he's the most intimidating presence here just by cracking his knuckles despite not having any Dreamer abilities of his own? ]

Hey, I'm getting in early on the Maki-chan fanclub. When you're a big star, all the pens and stuff I stole from your desk are gonna be worth a fortune.
