The Damashii Family Housewarming

⭐ Who: The Damashii family and YOU!
⭐ When: March 18th (yes I know that’s not for a while I’m just excited okay)
⭐ Where: the Damashii mansion on the outskirts of town
⭐ What: The world famous Damashii family has moved to Yumemigaoka! Takamasa Damashii, second generation CEO of the esteemed cutting-edge aerospace corporation AllCosmos, is throwing open the doors of their new luxury home and holding a housewarming party. There will be fabulous food, wondrous games, live music, even a petting zoo!

… also it’s apparently his son’s birthday? Someone do something about that, will they? He’s very busy.

The party is huge. The party is lavish. The party is a little bit weird? But that’s kind of Takamasa in a nutshell so you all presumably knew what you were getting into by coming here. Enjoy yourselves!

Tables and chairs are set up inside the house as well as outside to encourage mingling and enjoying the weather, which is graciously cooperative with no rain in sight (for now.)

☆ OUTDOORS
Petting zoo
There’s a huge petting zoo with everything from your standard goats and sheep and pigs to alpaca and even a couple cows?! There’s talk that Takamasa was overheard saying that he was disappointed he couldn’t get something like a panda bear on such short notice. There are also horses for pony rides - they're intended for the younger audience but the handler on site won't turn away any interested parties.

Tokusatsu Hero Show
At the request of young Ouji Damashii, there is a rotating series of hero shows being performed once every other hour on a big stage out in the yard. Audience participation is encouraged!

Live music
There will be a big band ensemble performing outside whenever the hero shows are not being performed. They specialize in jazz but can (and will) do a variety of genres. They also take requests!

Gardens
The Damashiis love flowers, especially roses! The rose garden isn’t in bloom right now, alas (come back in a couple months!) but there’s still a lovely cultivated garden around the property that you can peruse currently full of well-manicured shrubs and hedges and early spring blooms. To one side is a cute little gazebo with a table and a few chairs where tea and Mimoza’s homemade cookies are being served. It’s perfect for a more private little gathering!

Meet and Greet with the Damashii family
At one point, the whole family will gather for a impromptu press conference of sorts in front of the mansion and answer questions about the move and the company and even sign autographs and all that jazz. Ouji stands quietly and dutifully at his father’s side during this.

☆ OUTDOORS/INDOORS
Games
A variety of party games are available to play in the front yard and at tables throughout the inside of the house. There’s scavenger hunts and giant checkers and jenga and … look. I’m not gonna get too into the weeds here - if you have an idea for a game, it’s probably here. I’ll allow it. Just have fun!

Gift Table
There are, of course, tables for housewarming (or birthday?!) gifts but these are not required. There's a pretty considerable pile, though. If you brought one, drop it off here!

Balcony
Catch a breather! It’s a lovely view up here on the second floor. There is a big telescope located out here! It’s not a cutting edge model, which is why it’s available for visitors to use, but it’s still quite expensive and powerful! Turn it towards the city and try to spot your house or gaze up at the stars once the evening rolls around!

☆ INDOORS
Food and drink
There’s a simply extravagant assortment of appetizers, entrees and desserts available, all catered by gourmet chefs. It’s an international spread featuring Japanese cuisine as well as western favorites and of course, Mimoza Damashii’s favorite: gratin! There is wine and champagne for those of drinking age, as well.

A birthday cake?
It’s a huge, towering cake, made by Mimoza with help from some expert pastry chefs to account for the sheer scale of it. It is the color of a night sky with piped stars and constellations dotting it. The cake itself is a simple, sweet vanilla bean buttercream frosting with soft and spongy white cake. It looks, by all accounts, like a birthday cake, with 16 candles on top. Was it someone’s birthday today…?

If asked whose birthday it is, Mimoza will smile and tell you it is her precious son’s and try to pick him out in the crowd for you (difficulty level: high, because he is very short) and Takamasa will gush about his dear beloved son who inspired this move - who this is all for - and who is just about to enter high school at Promised Morning… but he won’t necessarily bring any of that up unprompted unless it suits him.

Karaoke
Did you know Takamasa Damashii loves to sing? Now you do. There’s a karaoke lounge set up in the entertainment room loaded with all your favorite hits and classics. There are some really strange and obscure pulls too, so go wild!

Art
There’s quite a collection of art and sculpture in the house. It’s all very bright and kind of surreal. Like, if you are familiar with the katamari series aesthetics and vibe, that’s on full display here. Things like an oil painting of a mandrill eating ramen and a large sculpture of a cow… bear…creature are mixed in with gorgeous photographs of space, boxing memorabilia and trophies from Takamasa’s youth and so on, so forth.

Pat that motherfucking party ~~dog~~ cat
The Damashii family (or more specifically, Mimoza) has a feisty black cat as a pet. Her name is Elmira. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the party (which is very understandable it is So Much), why not take a break in one of the less crowded side rooms with its extravagant and luxurious couches and chairs and pet a cat?

Can anyone participate in this log?
Yes! This log is completely open to any resident of the city as the family is opening the doors to the public.

Can I tag other people?
Yes! In fact you’re encouraged to tag around! It’s a party mingle, baybee!

What does the mansion look like?
Located on the edge of the city, the Damashii mansion is western in style, very stylish and modern with a big front yard and a gated entryway. Inside the decor is extravagant, eccentric, and perhaps a little gaudy at times.

What do Takamasa and Mimoza Damashii look like?
Glad you asked! Here is a drawing of them! They are both rather tall (6’5” and 5’10”, respectively). Takamasa will be wearing a fancy white suit similar to this (without the collar) and Mimoza will be wearing her favorite pink and cream dress. Feel free to chat with them!

Where is Ouji?
He’ll be popping up around the party and keeping tabs on his father - I may toss up some starters but I’ll also be tagging around with him. Your character is welcome to recognize him or not recognize him at all (he does PR work for his dad and is, of course, a celebrity child, but he’s still not nearly as part of the public eye as Takamasa.) He will be wearing a suit not entirely unlike his father's but a little less flashy and dark green in color.

He is. And... I know what you mean. When I'm doing a play or--or, well, yes, in the Dream Sphere. That comes out more then. [Though... it ties back into how she burnt herself out; overworked until she was falling over, mentally and physically. She hesitates for a second. Should she be seeing them the same way?

She's not sure she can't. The parts of Dreaming she loves have a lot in common with the stage, after all.]

Lisa is the best baker I've ever met. However... I should admit to a bias, there. [Junna smiles, then. That's a bit of a joke. But not entirely.] But thank you. I could use it. I, ah, do get quite a few questions and a lot of looks. Even in the dorms, it's... sometimes a lot to put up with.

I've just started going back to work, so I mean. Even if you come over to hang, and I have to head out to work...I trust you, you know? I'll let Zeke know, too. Also, Turters is a great listener, though he doesn't usually give advice.

[Sam is...sort of making a joke, here, but even she has talked to the turtle. He listens, and he doesn't judge. Just begs for worms. No, Sam wouldn't expect anyone else besides herself or Zeke to indulge him.]

Yeah, and if it's not the kind of looks you want--like the kind either of us get on our chosen stages--it can be just as much of a stressor as everything else. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life!

Ah, thank you! I'll definitely take you up on that. It's nice to have a place to unwind. And--well--a turtle to talk to, too.

[She had a cat, growing up. She gets talking to your pet. Sometimes you just want someone to listen and a pet can do that.

[Not that Sam is thrilled to know that there were Disturbances going on while she was gone. She had worried about all of the other Dreamers. But she had other stuff going down. But that's what therapy had been for. To help with that. And to help endure her so-called family. Coming back had only made her realize that her family was here.]

And don't forget you have support. Not just Lisa. And don't let her forget it, either. I get the feeling that she doesn't want to bother people. I get that, but...some people wanna be bothered? I never see it as an actual bother, myself.

Yeah. I, ah, I guess it's... well, it should let up sooner or later. [Even if she worries it'll be because of the next big scoop. Someone else gets it instead of her. That's cold comfort.

She perks up, though -- and then Junna smilees, before she nods.] Yeah... she is like that. I'm trying to be sure she knows that she has me. But... not just me, either. I know it's not a bother, it's just... hard to remember that in the moment.

Yeah, but you worry about what other people think, too.

[Sam, so do you...but she'd cop to being a hypocrite if she were ever called on it.]

Unless it's another Dreamer, they can't really know what we deal with every day, do they? Not unless they do some serious question-asking. And listening. I mean, in the States we're not as crazy about Dreamers as they seem to be, here. And I don't mean that as an insult, you know? But it's like...they get held to a different standard than your average person. But we're human, too. We're not perfect all the time. We make mistakes. All we can do--all of us, every Dreamer--is strive to do better, right?

But it's like they expect us to do more. [At least, her parents had done that, too, and Sam is pretty damn sure they hadn't been keeping track of her in Japan at all. She was just held to a different standard than her brother was, too.]

Mm. I definitely do that. [She looks down for a second, and then she nods. There is a hesitant look on her face when she hears that -- and Junna looks up, but there's a nod of her head.

That all makes sense to her. She doesn't really know how the culture is different in America, but Junna isn't surprised to hear they see Dreamers differently.] They do. They treat us... like celebrities, really. But, like you said. We're human and we make mistakes.

I guess it's... hard for them to see people they idealize making mistakes. [Even if it hurts that she might have let the fans she does have down. She is such a new Dreamer, in the grand scheme, that she doubts she has many.]

Oh, jeez, we're celebrities there, too. It's just that some of us take a page from the super hero comics and have secret identities. They can't take footage of us--any of us--in the Dream Sphere, and so that's kind of an advantage.

[Sam pauses, then.] Though I suppose since I look kinda different there anyway, I'd have an up, if they could...

Or they think that we can't make mistakes. Like being a Dreamer gives us more than just powers. Sure, we're larger than life, I guess, but we're still just humans. Just people. Like them, just a little...more? I guess?

I mean I've been doing this for a bit, and I still screw up sometimes...but I haven't screwed up so bad that I'm not a Dreamer any more. That means I pick myself back up, and go back out there. I feel like that's a better example, I guess. You're not a disappointment because you made a mistake, or a mess of things, or had a Disturbance. Any of that. The only way you'd disappoint anyone--at least like, me, or otherwise at the DU, probably--I can only speak for myself, but. The only way you'd upset me is if you gave up. You don't look like you're gonna, though, and I'm proud of you for that!

Different kinds of celebrities, then. That makes sense, though -- they can't. I have a costume for DU events, but... it doesn't quite look the same as the real thing in the Dream Sphere. It's an approximation.

[Junna hesitates for a second, and then she nods. She supposes it's similar; in Japan, it's a more Japanese sort of hero they expect.

But what Sam says makes sense. People don't realize they can make mistakes. It's a lot of pressure, even now. The vote of confidence, though, gets a smile out of her.]

I don't plan to. It's... well, I won't lie, my confidence is a little shaken. But... I'm working on it, still. I intend to keep at it.

Ha! I wear my tour guide outfit at DU events. They're gonna get what they're gonna get, and I mean. I do work there as a tour guide! So if they don't like it, well. They can lump it, right?

[Sam nods at that, listening.] Good. I mean. You probably know we need you anyway, but we do. You're an important part of all this. I mean, I'm nothing more than rank and file myself, but...

[She shakes her head.] There's just too much weird stuff going on, I guess. And it's good that you are gonna keep at it! That and I mean. If you need anything...I know I keep saying stuff like that, but I mean it.

[Sam lifts a hand to the back of her head again, clearly embarrassed.] Sometimes I just feel like I'm some weirdo American who's pasted on to the folks here. I wonder how often I embarrass myself. It's never seemed too bad, but...every once in a while, even I get self-conscious, ya know?

That certainly seems like a fair exchange to me. [Besides, Junna isn't notably taller or anything in the Dream Sphere. Her hair and eye color change a little, but that can be handled with a wig -- or just wearing the outfit and it's close enough.

She does feel a little surprised to hear that she's needed. But, on the other hand, she never thought that wasn't true.] I'm glad. I admit I've... worried a little, after the Disturbance.

[She shakes her head.] I understand. I've never thought that. And if I was in America, I'm sure I would feel the same. I think you've done just fine, Sam.

You'd probably be cooler than me! There's always a group of drama kids who all stick together. Or that's the way it was in my school. It might depend on where you are, though. There was a bit of crossover with band kids, too. That's what I was.

[Which was also a bit to her parents' chagrin, but then again, marching band was popular enough...]

I guess I'm just more affected by everything than I thought, I'm letting my anxiety out all of a sudden! That's not supposed to happen!

[However, Sam being Sam, she's trying to treat it as a joke, more than a cause for alarm. She'll just talk to her therapist about it in the near future...]

Hey, if I run into Lisa, I'll let her know about the deal with you and my apartment, but you do the same? You both are welcome there, after all. It's probably just better if she hears it from both ends, I think.

Well... I can't deny that. That's often how it goes. [She laughs a bit. Though, Junna never quite found a drama crowd at Promised Morning. But she also tended to focus more on being a Dreamer until a little before she graduated.

She blinks, though -- then she smiles, shaking her head.] No, no, it's okay! It's... been a lot lately. There's nothing to apologize for.

[All that said, Junna brightens up a little to hear Lisa mentioned. And to hear that someone else has Lisa's back.]

I will! She'll be grateful. She--um--she could probably use knowing it's an option, to be honest.

Aw, you and I might not know each other really well yet, but I consider Lisa a friend, definitely. And it's not a stretch for me to consider you one, either, so...

I got you both! [Both thumbs up, now.] Zeke and I still play that game you got me, too. It's coming with when we find the new place!

And yeah, I bet. I'm not real sure what I'd do if Zeke had to deal with some crazy stuff. [Sam pauses, then, and shrugs.]

[Junna beams. Then, she brightens up -- her eyes widen a little bit. She always wondered how that went.] I'm really glad! I was hoping you'd like it.

[There's a moment of quiet, though, as she considers.] The best is all you can ask for. And... I guess, just being there when you need them. Lisa was for me, and... that's something I'll always be grateful for.

I'm sure Lisa's not the only one...just the closest one who'll be there for you!

And yeah, I'm not planning to go anywhere, now. Got no reason to go back to the States. This is my home now. Because of everything, and not just that. Zeke too! I tell you, when I first came over here, I never thought I'd end up with a boyfriend...

[Even that still sounds strange to Sam's ears, and it's been going on for more than a year!]

Oh, but I ought to let you get in on that pony ride you wanted, shouldn't I? I'm either...going to go find some food, or go ruffle some alpaca fluff, and then go find some food!

Mm. Yes, I've got quite a few people in my corner. [Junna is lucky and she knows it. There's no doubt after the Disturbance.

She gets what Sam means, though.] I think I understand. I didn't expect to find a girlfriend either.
