[ If you're in the DU headquarters over the second weekend of January, you may be bowed to by a petite girl with fluffy blond curls who announces: ]

Bonne année! Dreamer La Pucelle, reporting for duty.

[ And then...she holds out a tin of tiny, square golden candies. ]

It does not excuse my tardiness, but would you like a bergamot? They are specialties from my dear Lorraine.

Oh! Uhhhhh...

[The man looks around as if to find someone else to shove this situation onto. But no one is here.]

Well, hey, I'm not anybody you'd have to be reporting to. I'm sure it's fine, there's been a lot going on here anyway, heh...

[.....should he still take a candy, or]

Then I am twice as glad to return, and you are twice as kind to say so.

[ And she picks out a square to offer him! The candy is for E V E R Y O N E. ]

Are you a Dreamer, then?

Oh, thanks.

[He's not one to turn down free food! He'll set about unwrapping it.]

No, no, I just work here. But, uh - you really notice when there's stuff going down in the Dream Sphere, you know? Working around so many Dreamers and all. Not in my dreams, just around the office.

[ When he tries the candy, it will be citrus-y and slightly bitter, but not in a nasty way. More a neat offset to the sweetness.

Jeanne, though....can't help but worry. "Stuff going down"....oh, Lord, please have protected her fellow Dreamers...! ]

Mmm, this is good!

[But, uh...more to the point...]

Um...yeah, they are now. But a lot of people got stuck in the Dream Sphere for a while, a few months back. I didn't think that could even happen, but...well, it was kinda empty here for a while.

[Not that he knows that, since he was stuck in the Dream Sphere too. But that's probably true, right?]

And there was another one of the Disturbances. That's, uh...different, though?

They could not return at all?

[ That's different from what had happened to her! Jeannette, too, has had some difficulty with the Dream Sphere. But in her case, she had been trapped in one area, but could return to the Waking World at will.

How much worse her comrades have had it.....! She goes pale with distress. Poor everybody! ]

[Amane can't help but pause in his tracks at the offered candy tin held in his direction, blinking a bit owlishly for a moment at the girl before him. She looked... sort of familiar?? He's pretty sure they've never run into one another in the Dream Sphere, but there was something about those blond ringlets that he's sworn he'd seen before...]

Uhhh... sure?

[He'll worry about it later, though-- free candy was free candy, after all! He plucks one of the golden sweets from the tin, examining it a little in the light. It sort of reminded him of those hard candies he would find at one of those old mom and pop shops, but...]

What's a bergamot, anyway...?

It is a citrus fruit, like orange or lemon.

[ How to describe this to someone who hasn't been to eastern France, where there's bergamots aplenty....Ah! ]

Bergamot oil is in Earl Grey tea.

[hanamane]

Oh! Sorta like yuzu, right?

[Not that Amane was an expert on citrus fruits or anything, but he was at least familiar with that one...! (But that's probably because his last name had the kanji for "yuzu" in it, so--)]

I've never really had Earl Grey tea before myself, but Mom keeps a lot of it at our place for customers and stuff. It's always smelled kinda nice though...

[He starts to unwrap the candy in his hands, studying the foreign script upon it. It certainly looks fancy...!]

Didja just get back from a vacation or something...?

[ Like yuzu, indeed! Jeannette isn't sure whether to nod or shake her head at the question, though. It wasn't quite a vacation, and she's a precise young lady. ]

I lived with my father's family in France. It gladdened me to see them - but I am gladder to be back. I must lead the Dreamer Union army.

[He goes to pop the candy in his mouth, a question on his lips about her stay in France--

... but then she drops that megaton bombshell on him, and the bergamot promptly falls back out.]

I-Is that like... a Western branch sort of thing??

[Surely he would have heard if the DU was organizing an army, right...?? But also, weren't a chunk of them too young for military service anyway...??]

[ She looks up, surprised - she had been busy catching his candy (which is right here if you want it, or you can have a fresh one, your call). ]

They do not have an army either. But an angel told me that I have what it takes to lead the Dreamer Union to victory as a commander of war. So I must make an army.

[ Perfectly logical, right? ]

.. huh?

[ Give Illya a moment to place her face. It doesn't take too long before some sort of recognition seems to set in, along with surprise. ]

Oh..! You're back again? [ At least, she's pretty sure it's again. Doesn't she come from somewhere else? .. France, right? ] Did you bring those along from there..?

Oui!

[ To both questions, and oh, drat, she spoke French again, didn't she? At least most people know "oui". She probably doesn't have to explain. ]

They are made of a fruit that grows near my home.

[ She sounds SO PROUD. Jeannette, you didn't grow them yourself....but apparently everything in the entirety of Lorraine is worth loving.

She has two homes! Yumemigaoka and France! ]

[ Thankfully Illya does definitely know oui! In fact, she knows a few basic words and phrases in a lot of languages, so she doesn't even look all that surprised at the other's French answer. It makes sense - especially if Jeannette just came back from France, she's probably still used to speaking French! ]

Wow!

[ She even looks so super impressed by what the other girl claims only a moment later, Illya's eyes growing wide. She gives the bergamot an excited glance, but it's almost like she's afraid of taking one - or maybe just afraid she might not be worthy of them. ]

Did you make them yourself at your home in France? [ Ah, see, Jeannette's proud declaration is leading to the wrong conclusion entirely.. And Illya looks so excited about the idea too, whoops! ]

[ Yarn. She made yarn. She is also carrying around yarn. For some reason.

Look, she has a lot of yarn, you never know when someone is going to need some yarn! ]

[ Apparently that's more surprising to Illya than the thought of making food yourself - or at least, she seems more surprised about this one, slowly blinking at Jeannette and her yarn.

Which clearly is normal to carry around, right. Illya wouldn't dare question the decision! ]

How do you even do that? I don't think I've seen anyone make that before! [ At least she does know how you make food, but this one is entirely new to her. ]

[ It takes Ai a slightly shamefully long moment to actually recognize who's in front of her (but her hand goes right in the candy tin regardless because of course it does) and she has a candy halfway to her mouth before her brain finally does the association necessary between France and People She Knows Who Are From France and - ]

[ Is her reaction like, half a second too late? Yes, but don't worry about it. ]

It's been forever...! When did you get back to Japan?

[ Jeannette doesn't mind the pause. Possibly doesn't even note it. She's just glad to see Ai, who had been so kind to her. ]

Yesterday. We flew direct from Rome - I went on pilgrimage!!

[ Shouldn't she be wildly jetlagged in that case....? Nah. The whole "pilgrimage" thing has her flying high for at LEAST another month.

SHE SAW THE VATICAN, OKAY. THERE IS A MASS WHERE THE POPE BLESSES EVERYONE'S ITEMS EN MASSE (EN MASS?) SO SHE GOT HER SANDGLASS BLESSED BY THE POPE.
